OTT names contributors of the issue

March 11, 2011

Each issue, we highlight the work of one or two student journalists. This time, we’re honoring an entire staff — the student-journalists at the East Oakland School of the Arts, who covered the murder of a fellow student, and wrote on plans to convert Castlemont into a single big school.
English teacher Marguerite Sheffer has been working with OTT Co-Managing Editor Beatrice Motamedi to plant seeds of journalism at EOSA.
“Over the last few weeks, the EOSA journalism team has come together to report tragic, complex and meaningful stories,” said Sheffer. “Students have interviewed, photographed, recorded, drafted, revised, and set up a news blog, The Ink Incorporated.”

Now students are fundraising to attend the national high school journalism convention in Anaheim in April. You can send a donation to EOSA, c/o Hilda Lilia Ortiz de Coots, office manager, at 8601 MacArthur Blvd., Oakland, 94605.
