The Sunday strip above by Moses Nervis is just one installment in "Me and My Roommates," an ongoing series about the adventures of characters Amber, Katey, Hershy, Alex, Naru, Chris, and Trevon. Nervis is a senior at Castlemont Business and Information Technology School in East Oakland.

I’m a senior now, but I started drawing when I was about three years old.

As a kid, I watched a lot of TV shows that inspired me to draw comics like Garfield, the Chipmunks, the Super Mario brothers, Scooby Eoo, and Tom and Jerry.

When I was about six years old, I drew a comic book that was about me and my cousin, stuck in the wilderness.
When I was nine, I started drawing “Me and my Friend Stephen,” a comic book about a ghost.
When I was 11, I started drawing “Me and My Roommates,” including my characters Amber, Katey, Hershy, Alex, Naru, Chris, and Trevon.

In 2005, I met a film producer from Los Angeles at my church. I let her see a couple of my comic books and she told me that they weren’t developed enough. That made me sad at first, as if people couldn’t recognize how hard I worked on my art.

But I’ve kept drawing.

My dream is to sell my comic strips to a newspaper syndicate. So far, I’ve drawn hundreds of comics, including more “Roommates” strips with two new characters, Pudge and Charlie, and comics for Sunday newspapers as well as weekday ones.

To tell you the truth, I feel that “Me And My Roommates” is going to be my breadwinner soon — if one of the comic syndicates agrees.
