A slideshow produced by students on the Aegis, Oakland High School’s newspaper, shows the many ways in which the school’s modest garden — about the size of a small classroom — goes beyond its boundaries, teaching students about everything from how to understand the process of photosynthesis, to how to fight obesity, to how to grieve for a lost friend.
The Oakland High garden was created in 2010 to honor the memory of Philip Wright, a former Oakland High student who was shot and killed in 2009.
Unfortunately, recent construction on the school’s campus has put the garden’s future in jeopardy. As of June, school administrators could not guarantee that the garden will be intact come the fall of 2010.
The slideshow tells donors and supporters whom to contact if they would like to offer help.
